In the last few years, I have expanded my research interests from earlier topics of peace research and human rights research into related areas such as the following: refugees and the movement of people, human security, and religion in international relations. Also, in the field of basic research in international relations theory, I have examined issues of governance, international cooperation, transnational relations, and identity. In particular, I am continuing research on questions relating to religion and international relations (such as fundamentalisms, civilizational differences, cultural roots of international relations, foundations of international society).

Current state of research and teaching activities
At both graduate and undergraduate levels, I teach International Relations. This includes general introductory courses in the theories and current conduct of international relations, as well as more specific seminars and courses on themes such as human rights, refugees and the movement of people, human security, peace research, religion and international relations, globalization, governance, transnational relations, nongovernmental organizations. My research interests are broad, and include general international relations theory (for example, governance, international cooperation theory, transnational relations), human rights and human security (including organizational aspects and identity issues), religion and international relations (including fundamentalisms, Asian concepts affecting normative issues), and refugees and the movement of people.
